Black Spots on Penis Head

Finding dark or black spots on penis head or anywhere around might cause a panic. However, it is quite normal for men to get genital spots occasionally.

While anything that looks inappropriate on the penis can be a symptom of a sexually transmitted disease, it might as well just be a skin rash. So it is important to see your health provider or get a test for STDs to ensure nothing wrong is going down there.

Dark spots on the penile shaft usually indicate a rare condition called penile melanosis that causes the penile shaft to discolor or creates black spots on penis head. The spots appear dark brown and darker than the actual skin of the penis.

Penile melanosis is neither contagious nor infectious and does not show symptoms other than the darkening of some areas of the penis skin. While this condition's exact cause is still undetermined, scientists and researchers say that you cannot pass it on through skin contact.

But how do you know you have penile melanosis? Melanosis is the term used for the increased melanin production in the skin, which causes it to become darker. If the black spots on penis head are appearing alone and look large, it might be symptoms of penile melanosis.

Some possible factors that cause penile melanosis development include age, injuries on the penis, genetics, or skin treatments. Since the actual cause of this rare condition is unknown, there is also no treatment other than the removal of the spots through cosmetic procedures.

There may be no reason to worry if black spots on penis head are penile melanosis. However, it is crucial to go for an STD test and talk to your doctor about it to be on the safe side. After all, ignoring possible STD symptoms can be much worse than discovering and treating them on time.
