Brown Discharge from Penis

Discharge from penis or penile discharge refers to any fluid that secretes out of the urethra besides semen and urine.

The urethra is a slender tube that moves semen and urine from the ejaculatory ducts and the bladder, respectively, to the penis tip, where the urethral opening is present.

Some discharges other than semen and urine are normal and help in protecting or lubricating the penis. However, there are others that might occur because of an underlying health issue.

The most common cause of brown discharge from penis is urethra inflammation, known as Urethritis. You may experience itching, swelling, and redness on the penis and also get bloody urine.

In addition to that, sore throat, fatigue, headache, and fever are some symptoms of Urethritis.

White, clear, or brown discharge from penis accompanied by irritation, odor, and pain can be symptoms of STDs like Chlamydia, Herpes, Trichomonas vaginalis, and gonorrhea.

If you discover that you have either of the STDs, contact your healthcare provider and get treatment immediately.

Other possible causes of penis discharge include Balanitis (foreskin inflammation), Dermatitis, Penile cancer, allergic reactions, Priapism (painful sustained erection), and chemical irritation from spermicides, soaps, and other products.

Brown discharge from penis might also indicate an infection of the prostate or urethra. And on more severe cases, it can be a sign of prostate or bladder cancer.

While these are the possible causes of penile discharge, self-diagnosing is dangerous. Therefore, if you are suffering from white, clear, or brown discharge from penis, we recommend getting an STD test.

With over 4500 locations for STD tests located in the country, finding one near you should not be difficult. The process is quick and easy, and you can get the proper treatment by consulting a doctor in case you have STDs.
