There are various causes for clear bumps on penis. They can be non-infectious skin conditions or symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases. Let’s look at some possible causes of clear bumps on penis and whether you should do anything about them.
Pimples: Pimples on the penis are normal, just as the ones on the rest of the body and face. When the pores on the skin of the penis become clogged due to the accumulation of debris, oil, and sweat, pimples form. They aren’t any different than your regular pimples and are nothing to worry about. Just don’t pop them even if they contain pus!
Penile papules: If you see hard, white, or clear pumps present on the penile head, you might be looking at penile papules. They are harmless and consist of oil-producing glands.
Folliculitis: These are clear bumps on penis that appear due to the hair follicle inflammation. They can be painful and itchy.
Some other non-infectious causes of clear bumps on penis are Fordyce spots, Lymphocele lumps, and Tyson glands. Besides them, there are a number of STDs that can cause clear bumps on penis too.
Gonorrhea: Bumps caused by gonorrhea start out as blisters. The blisters burst when filled with pus and then turn into open sores before healing.
Syphilis: If you don’t know already, syphilis is highly contagious and poses serious health threats when not treated. It can cause bumps on the penis that become sores as the symptoms progress.
Herpes: It doesn’t always cause symptoms, but when you get a herpes outbreak, you will see painful sores on the genitals or the mouth. They might appear as clear bumps on penis initially and then turn into blisters that rupture.
Molluscum contagiosum and HPV are also possible causes of clear bumps on your penis. As you can see that there are several possible causes of bumps appearing on the genitals, it would be hard to determine which infection you have just by looking at the symptoms. Therefore, we suggest going to an STD clinic to get tested for STDs and find out if an STD is causing the appearance of the bumps.
A doctor may also be able to tell the cause of the clear bumps by conducting a physical examination or taking tissue samples from the affected area. Whenever you see any usual change on your genitals, make sure to consult a doctor or seek medical help.
